For a global chemical company, ITIS tested plates for leakage in plate heat exchangers using method A2 (partial) vacuum technique as specified in EN 1779.

A plate heat exchanger is a type of heat exchanger that uses metal plates to transfer heat between two fluids. This offers a major advantage over a conventional heat exchanger, because the fluids are exposed to a much larger surface area as they spread across the plates.

This facilitates heat transfer and significantly increases the rate of temperature change.

The concept behind a heat exchanger is to use pipes or other containers to heat or cool a fluid by transferring heat between that fluid and another. In most cases, the heat exchanger consists of a coiled tube containing one fluid that flows through a chamber holding another fluid.

The walls of the tube are usually made of metal or another material with high thermal conductivity to facilitate the exchange, whereas the outer casing of the larger chamber is made of plastic or covered with thermal insulation to prevent heat from escaping the exchanger.
