The article demonstrates that a large proportion of industrial valves fail as soon as they are tested under true cryogenic conditions, even though they comply with common design and manufacturing standards. With the rapid growth of LNG and hydrogen applications, valves are exposed to temperatures down to −269 °C, while for many components no— or insufficiently validated— standards exist. In practice, more than sixty percent of valves succumb to casting defects, seal failures, material embrittlement and unforeseen tolerance changes, resulting in leakages, increased fugitive emissions and acute safety risks. The absence of early, realistic testing means that failures only become visible once installations are already in operation, with costly and potentially dangerous consequences.
